ISI TRAPIDO
“KIIRUS / SPEED” · 1964
Vintage Gelatin Silver Print · One of Three Artist’s Copies
Isi Trapido’s “Speed” (1964) is one of only three artist-made vintage gelatin silver prints in existence. The second copy is held in the Estonian Museum of Photography; the first sold at Sotheby’s London in 2013 for £2,500. This third copy is offered directly by the artist’s sole heir.
The work depicts Ants Antson – Estonia’s first individual Winter Olympic gold medallist (Innsbruck 1964, 1500m speed skating) – training on an outdoor track in winter 1964, most likely weeks before his historic victory. This is not merely a photographic artwork: it is a portrait of a future champion on the threshold of history.
